When 25-year-old Margarida Mateus started looking to buy her first home in London, Greenwich Millennium Village, a joint venture between Countryside Partnerships and Taylor Wimpey, met so much of her criteria. Not only did she fall instantly in love with the apartment, with its balcony and far-reaching city and river views, but the development is in the perfect location for her to pursue her hobbies while enjoying the energy and buzz of east London.
Originally from Lisbon, Margarida moved to London in 2020 to complete her MA in Marketing, and now works for a marketing company based in Victoria. She has been renting a studio apartment in Canary Wharf, but recently decided that the time was right to purchase her own property and look to settle in the UK. However, she wanted to stay in the area due to the simple commute to work and her busy lifestyle.
Greenwich Millennium Village is situated on the Greenwich Peninsula and comprises a range of high-specification and energy-efficient one to three bedroom apartments, which are ideal for young professionals, couples and families looking to embrace village life in the city.
Margarida soon purchased a one-bedroom apartment at Greenwich Millennium Village after viewing. She bought the property using her own savings and support from her parents, Sandra and Antonio, who have wanted to invest as a family in London property for a long time. Her mother, Sandra, was the one who presented Greenwich Millennium Village to Margarida, who couldn’t wait to see what could be available to her.
Margarida comments: “I suppose you could say it was love at first sight with the apartment, it’s the perfect size for me and I’ve always wanted to have a balcony. I’m so looking forward to having this space, to sharing this with friends and enjoying the view, and even taking a little time for myself to sit and relax while reading a good book when the weather is warm.
“The views are so beautiful – my apartment is on the fifth floor, so I can see the river from my kitchen window, and the development’s landscaped podium garden from the balcony. It was a huge selling point for me.”
What’s more, Margarida loves the location, as it enables her to continue her hobbies and activities surrounding music and dance. She has recently joined a hip-hop and K-pop dance school in the city, DGC Dance, which involves many classes to attend, as well as rehearsals and performances to take part in. She dances up to five times per week, which keeps her busy!
Margarida is also looking forward to having simple access to The O2, as she likes to attend many concerts and events. She says: “I’ve got a concert booked this summer, as well as Mamma Mia: The Party and I’m so excited to have easy access to The O2 from my new home. It can be challenging to get home from The O2 after a popular event, so as a music and performance lover I’m grateful for the excellent location of the property.”
Margarida is also grateful to the team at Greenwich Millennium Village, for providing so much support throughout purchasing the property. She comments: “The team were so attentive. They were so brilliant at guiding me through everything, as I was unsure about many aspects to the process as a first-time buyer. I felt so comfortable to ask all the questions that I had.”
The benefits that are on offer to customers also helped to spark her interest in buying at Greenwich Millennium Village further, as she was eligible to use the Bank of Mum and Dad scheme. This incentive is aimed towards buyers who are receiving a minimum of a 5% contribution of the property purchase price from family members. Once this is validated, parents or family members that have provided financial support will receive £2,000 from Greenwich Millennium Village as a thank you after completion.
She is due to move into her new home over the next few weeks, with her parents coming over to help with the move. Margarida says: “I can’t wait – my furniture is due to arrive soon, and I’m excited to start settling into my own home in this beautiful spot in the city.”
