Maghull football team kicks off the new season in style

Ahead of the 2023/24 football season, local Maghull football team, St George’s Eagles has secured sponsorship from our Merseyside and Cheshire West region, for its new under 9s kit.

The team of 11 boys is competing in the Summer League, which runs from May to August, in the brand new kits, which team manager, Sean Powell, says wouldn’t have been possible without the likes of Countryside. The new kits arrived ahead of the team’s tournament at Flamingo Land last month.

We're currently building new 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes at our Eastbrook Village development on Poverty Lane in Maghull, just a short distance from St George’s primary school, where the football club is based.

St George’s Eagles Under 9s team in Countryside sponsored kit

St George’s Eagles is just one of 14 teams that form part of St George's Junior Football Club. The club was started in 1994 by chairman, Bernie Jones and has now become a Liverpool County Football Association Charter Standard Club.

The under 9s team has played together since they were under 6s in the North Liverpool Junior Football League and have gone on to win several tournaments, including last year’s Summer League cup.

Sean Powell, St George’s Eagles team manager, commented: “The cost of running a grassroots team is a costly affair encompassing training venue hire, pitch hire, FA affiliation, Insurance, league and referee fees before a ball is kicked. It is only through the support of sponsors, that clubs like St Georges are able to flourish and provide new kit and equipment for the children. I am therefore delighted and grateful that Countryside has so generously provided support to St Georges Eagles u9, as they make the transition into seven a side football.”

Gemma Hardy, Managing Director, Countryside Partnerships Merseyside and Cheshire West, commented: “Supporting the local communities in which we work is very important to us at Countryside, especially being able to help clubs like St George’s, which has been at the heart of the community for almost 30 years. We’re pleased to see the team in the new kits and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the Summer League and for the new season ahead. As the new homes at Eastbrook Village continue to take shape, we look forward to continuing our work with the local community and St George’s Eagles.”
