“The difference in energy bills has been incredible.”
We met first time buyers Anupam and Shrabanti last year, just as they’d moved into their new three bed home at Belle Vue Place in Manchester.

They were renting a two bedroom apartment previously, but really wanted to move into an energy efficient home before the arrival of their first baby.

At the time, they didn’t know exactly what their energy bills would be, but they told us how warm the house was and that they’d not had to put the heating on as much as they had in their apartment.

One year on and they’ve told us that “the difference in energy bills has been incredible.”

The reason

Shrabanti, who was kind enough to share their experience of living in the Dearn house type with us, said:

“We chose a new build because we saw that it was more energy efficient than older houses and we had a baby coming, so we needed it.

“Also, there was another issue that if we buy an old house, a lot of our savings will go towards the renovation. But with a new build we don’t have to do it.”

The result

 Anupam adds:

“Energy efficiency was crucial in terms of our home search. In our old two bedroom apartment, because of increasing inflation, our energy bills were coming up to £150 to £180 per month.

“Shrabanti was expecting and we knew we had to keep our home warm. It was all these circumstances circulating that led to us buying a house that was energy efficient.

“It is a three bedroom, three storey house and we’re paying just £120 per month and we are never uncomfortable. The house gets warm and it keeps warm - for days sometimes in the winter months. We are very happy about that aspect, there’s no question about it.”

The star of the show

Another selling point for the couple were the skylights and it makes us happy to hear they’re still one of the favourite things about their home!

Shrabanti says: “My favourite thing about our home is the velux windows in our kitchen and master bedroom. It’s always open and we feel free.”

Anupam adds: “The first few nights we were here, we didn’t turn the lights on because it was moonlit. It was amazing seeing the moon rise up in the night sky and it was quite romantic as well.”

It’s hearing stories like these - and meeting happy little showstoppers like Anupam and Shrabanti’s gorgeous baby boy - that make our job all the more worthwhile.

We hope it’s made you smile as much as we have.
